The Morning Room

A corner of the Morning Room. Considered the most appealing room in the house by visitors, the Morning Room has a northerly aspect. Double doors give access to the loggia and private garden. The room is connected to the larger Private Drawing Room by a recessed sliding door. In addition, they share a colour scheme of sage and gilt.

This room functions as a subsidiary room to the Drawing Room for family and individual use. It does not have the feel of a formal State room, being smaller and more intimate in scale and furnishings.

The room has adapted itself to alterations in size, and to different decorative schemes. The centrepiece is an ornate yellow Sienna marble mantelpiece with cast iron fireplace, ceramic surrounds and gilt overmantel mirror.

The furnishings in this room represent different styles and periods. The fully upholstered suite of wing chairs and sofa is modern, whereas the small desk is in the Sheraton style. A gasolier has been replaced with a chandelier, and the room now has wall to wall carpet.
