Introduction

Throughout the week, the Governor and Mr Howard hosted a number of engagements to recognise the valuable and varied contributions made by Victorians to our community.

This week, the Governor and Mr Howard met virtually with Year 12 Legal Studies students from Wodonga Senior Secondary College, as part of the Governor in Schools Program. During the session, students had the opportunity to ask the Governor and Mr Howard questions related to their subject , which considers the Australian Constitution and the role of Parliament in law-making and about the role of the Governor. The Government House Scarecrow Program resumed this week, with students from Emerson School and Springvale Park Special Development School visiting Government House to deliver their scarecrows. Read more about the Scarecrow Program here.

A reception for Foodbank Victoria on the occasion of their 90th anniversary was an opportunity for the Governor and Mr Howard to give thanks to many who have been involved with Australia’s largest food relief organisation. 

As Patron of Red Cross Victoria, Mr Howard hosts the Red Cross Victoria Awards annually at Government House. The Awards recognise the achievements of those who support their communities through their work with Red Cross Victoria. Red Cross Australia is part of the world’s largest humanitarian network of staff, members and volunteers. In Victoria, there are 1800 members and 3500 volunteers. Western Chances is an organisation dedicated to helping young people from Melbourne’s West achieve their potential. They do so by providing scholarships, programs and ongoing support to help students complete their education successfully. A reception for Western Chances was an opportunity for the Governor and Mr Howard to acknowledge and thank those who have worked with this organisation since it was established in 2003.
