The Governor and Mr Howard this evening hosted a reception at Government House Victoria for members of the Consular Corps Melbourne, at an event showcasing some of Victoria’s wonderful fresh produce.

The Consular Corps has played an important role in supporting Victorian communities throughout the 2019/2020 bushfires and the COVID-19 pandemic, at the same time developing the commercial, cultural and social connections of their respective countries and communities within the State.

Consular Corps members were treated to an array of Victorian produce, including wine, cheese, olives and meats, an opportunity to promote Victorian vendors and their world-class produce.

Speaking to guests, the Governor highlighted the important role the Consular Corps plays in the State’s economic life, and also congratulated vendors for rising to the challenges presented over the past year.

“Despite the challenges of devastating bushfires, followed by a global pandemic, we have seen how [Victorian vendors]  have maintained a secure supply chain of premium produce,” the Governor said. “We thank them for their skill and resilience. We also take the opportunity to thank you, our Consular Corps, for the role so many of you have undertaken in regional Victoria across this time. Over and again we have heard of the support you have offered in the communities most adversely affected by the fires.”
