To mark the Coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla, Government House will be open for self-guided tours of the State Apartments on Saturday 6 May.

This free community event will run between 10.00am and 4.00pm (last entry at 3.30pm). Guests will have the opportunity to view the magnificent Ballroom, State Hall, State Dining Room, State Drawing and Billiard Room.

Visitors on the day will also be able to write messages of congratulations for Their Majesties in commemorative books that will be available in the Ballroom. That evening, the iconic Government House tower will be lit purple to mark the Coronation.

The Open House will mark the commencement of a series of activities celebrating the Coronation of Their Majesties, including the attendance of Her Excellency the Hon. Linda Dessau AC CVO, Governor of Victoria at the Coronation in the United Kingdom.

When the Governor returns, a Coronation Reception will be hosted by the Governor and Mr Anthony Howard AM KC. Guests will include Members of Parliament and representatives from a diverse range of community organisations.

There will also be a ceremonial tree planting in the gardens of Government House Victoria to mark the occasion.

Entry

Entry is free. Gates open at 10:00am, and close at 3.30pm.

Self-guided tours of the State Apartments will operate between 10.00am and 4:00pm.

You will need to pass through a security checkpoint and bag inspection at entry.

Please note, last entry to the house will be at 3.30pm.

No food or drink will be permitted inside the State Apartments.

Accessibility

Government House Victoria has step-free access to the State Apartments via a ramp next to the Fountain Court.

Movement around the House is suitable for mobility aids.

While there is no parking available at Government House, limited metered accessible parking is available on nearby Linlithgow and Birdwood Avenues.

Accessible toilets are available within the House.

Public transport

You are encouraged to take public transport:

Flinders Street Station is a 15 to 20-minute walk to Government House

Take the St Kilda Rd/Coventry St tram - routes 3/3a, 5, 6,16, 64, 67 and 72 - and get off at the Grant Street - Police Memorial stop

Parking

Parking will not be available at the House. If you drive, there will be limited metered parking on Linlithgow and Birdwood avenues.

Pets, Scooters and Bicycles

Please note, to ensure the safety of all visitors at the Open House event, dogs – with the exception of assistance dogs – will not be permitted on the grounds of Government House.

E-scooters will also not be permitted entry.

Bike parking is available within the grounds of Government House. However, the riding of bikes is not permitted onsite.
