Victoria’s multi-billion dollar export industry was recognised for its success and innovation at Government House tonight with the presentation of 15 ‘Governor of Victoria Export Awards’ across a range of fields.
FX broker, Pepperstone Group, received the Victorian Exporter of the Year Award from the Hon Linda Dessau AC, Governor of Victoria, at the presentation night attended by more than 300 industry leaders.
The Governor told guests that Victoria earned more than $43 billion in exports in 2016/17– up by more than $4 billion from the previous financial year.
“We know of the challenges in transitioning from traditional manufacturing,” the Governor said.
“Pleasingly, we are rising to those challenges. We recorded a remarkable 169 per cent growth in the export of pharmaceutical products, and education-related travel was also a significant contributor to the increase in the export of our services.”
“As Patron of these awards, it is a great pleasure to acknowledge the work of all of you who contribute so much to our Victorian exports.”

Agribusiness Award: Yumbah Aquaculture Limited
For outstanding international success in the field of agricultural products, services or technology, including processed foods and beverages, and the forestry, fisheries and fibres industries. Yumbah Aquaculture Limited, Australia’s largest, lowest risk, multi-site aquaculture company supplying about sixty per cent of the total cultured abalone produced in Australia.
Business Services Award: Flight Safety Foundation Limited
For outstanding international success in the professional business services including legal, accounting, administration and support services, business management, marketing services, franchising and licensing, engineering, financial and insurance, market research and translation services. Flight Safety Foundation Limited lead the world in continually improving aviation safety methods for their members and their sector. The Flight Safety Foundation are activities in 31 countries and publish four Standards in five languages.
Creative Industries Award: Envato
For outstanding international success across all creative industries including music and performing arts, film, television and radio, software and interactive content, writing, publishing and print media, architecture, design and visual arts. Envato connects millions of customers with thousands of talented creatives, from designers and developers to musicians and animators.
Digital Technologies Award: Pepperstone
For outstanding international success in the field of information and communication products, technology or services that are connected with storage, retrieval, manipulation, transmission or receipt of digital data including software and games. Pepperstone is one of the world’s fastest growing foreign exchange brokers with clients in over 170 countries. Pepperstone’s clients traded over 2 trillion Australian dollars in the 2017 financial year.
E-Commerce Award: DPP Pharmaceuticals
For outstanding success by an Australian business using online sales platforms as a primary channel to sell goods or services overseas. DPP Pharmaceuticals’ first foray into export was on the cross border e-Commerce platform Tmall Global on Singles Day in 2015, selling a staggering 175,000 units of Goat soap products – double that figure was sold on Singles Day in 2016.
Education And Training Award: Deakin University
For outstanding innovation and international success in the field of education and training services, expertise and curriculum including vocational training. Deakin University was one of the Australian universities to open offices internationally and currently has independent offices in five countries as well as dedicated staff based in Asia, Europe and Africa.
Environmental Solutions Award: Geofabrics Australasia Pty Ltd
For outstanding international success in environmental solutions, clean energy innovation, materials and energy efficiency, waste and water management, green buildings and research and design collaboration. Geofabrics Australasia Pty Ltd is Australia’s largest and only manufacturer of geosynthetic products to the global engineering and resources sectors. Geofabrics has a proven track record of product performance across mining, landfill, coastal erosion and sports field applications.
Health And Biotechnology Award: Leica Biosystems
For outstanding international success in medical, healthcare, biotechnology fields for products, technology, equipment or services. Leica Biosystems’ Melbourne-designed and manufactured cancer diagnostic instruments are now exported to 65 countries around the world.
Manufacturing Award: Ego Pharmaceuticals
For outstanding international success by a manufacturer. Ego Pharmaceuticals, the largest Australian-owned pharmaceutical company specialising in dermatology, it researches, manufactures and markets over 120 products to 27 nations throughout Asia Pacific, the Middle East and Europe.
Minerals, Energy And Related Services Award: MMG Limited
For outstanding international success in the production or primary processing of extractive and value-added minerals or energy products, mining equipment, technology and services (METS) to the minerals and energy industries. MMG Limited operates and develops copper, zinc and other base metals projects across Australia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Lao People’s Democratic Republic and Peru.
Regional Exporter Award: Safescape
For outstanding international success by a business whose head office is based in a non-metropolitan location. Safescape focusses on practical innovation in the mining industry; working with their clients to challenge the status quo and design solutions that provide safety, cost and production benefits.
Small Business Award: Anatomics Pty Ltd
For outstanding international success by any business with total annual sales (including domestic sales) not exceeding $5 million. Anatomics Pty Ltd was the world’s first medical 3D printing and custom made implant laboratory, producing implants for domestic and international export markets. They recently launched a printed titanium implant range for orthopaedic use which has gained worldwide media attention for its world first applications.
Victorian Women In International Business Award: Lyn Stribley, Director Of Mining One
For outstanding success by a Victorian woman involved in international business. Lyn Stribley, Director of Mining One, has achieved a five-time growth in the company’s Chinese export revenue, and four-time growth in its Chilean export revenue. Lyn headed Mining One’s expansion into China, South America, Indonesia and Africa as well as opened Mining One’s international offices in Beijing, Jakarta and Santiago. Lyn has been an inspiring role model for other women in this heavily male-dominated mining industry. Her courage, vision and dedication has led Mining One to grow from a small business, to the world’s sixth largest mining consulting firm, with offices all over Australia and overseas.
Victorian Export Award For Innovation Excellence: Harris C4i Pty Ltd
Recognises the overall most innovative exporter from all the entrants to the 2017 Governor of Victoria Export Awards. The award considers innovation in all aspects of the company’s export operations. Harris C4i Pty Ltd devises solutions that are vital to the 24-7 operations and effective incident responses of organisations in 35 countries across a range of sectors such as aviation, defence, public safety, utilities, transport and resources.
