A message from the Governor of Victoria on the death of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh
My husband Tony and I were very sad to learn of the passing of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, and my husband joins me in sending heartfelt condolences to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and to all members of the Royal Family.
His Royal Highness accompanied Her Majesty to Victoria on many occasions across some seven decades and met many Victorians from all walks of life and every corner of our State.
Prince Philip leaves a significant legacy through the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, which encourages young people to serve their communities, and to develop and learn outside the classroom. Many thousands of Victorians are among the millions of young people who have been inspired in more than 130 countries in the 60 years of the Awards.
With the passing of His Royal Highness, we acknowledge and give thanks to Prince Philip for his lifetime of service in the United Kingdom, throughout the Commonwealth and in Australia.
His Royal Highness will be fondly remembered by the people of Victoria.
