The Governor and Mr Howard travelled to Hong Kong for an Official Visit.
While in Hong Kong, the Governor gave a speech at the opening of the Hong Kong Business of Design week, before attending the Launch of the Melbourne Pavilion, and giving an address at the Launch.
Hong Kong Business of Design week is Asia’s premier annual event for design, innovation and brands. Melbourne was chosen by the Hong Kong Trade Development House to be the partner city for Hong Kong Business of Design Week in 2018. As the first city in the Southern Hemisphere to be chosen as a partner city for the event, many of Melbourne’s design-based businesses are being given the opportunity to showcase their expertise to the leading design and trade organisations in the region.
As part of the Official Visit, the Governor met with Ms Carrie Lam, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, as well as meeting with representatives of various businesses in Hong Kong, in order to further strengthen ties between Victoria and Hong Kong.
The Governor and Mr Howard also visited the workshop of Master Hui Ka Hung, Master Dragon Maker, a third-generation papercraft dragon maker who is currently working on the new dragon for Bendigo, which will play a central role in Bendigo's annual Easter Procession, as part of the Bendigo Easter Festival.
