Information for members of the public following the death of HRH The Duke of Edinburgh.

How can Australians express their condolences?

A Condolence Book will be available at the front gates of Government House Victoria from 9 am to 4 pm for members of the public to sign, beginning on Saturday 10 April. An online Condolence Book will be made available here.

Should all flags be flown at half-mast?

In accordance with flag protocols, the Australian National Flag, and any other flags which are being flown with it, will be flown at half‑mast from Saturday 10 April until the day of the funeral.

Flag protocol also dictates that flags are never flown at half mast at night.

Why is the Governor's Standard at full-mast?

Flags at Government House Victoria are flown at half-mast at the appropriate times to mark the passing of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh.

The Governor's Vice-Regal Standard remains at full-mast.  It represents the Crown, which is continuous, and it would therefore be inappropriate for it to fly at half-mast.

The Duke of Edinburgh was a patron of a number of organisations in Australia. Will patronage be passed on?

The Duke of Edinburgh retired from official duties in 2017, at which time his patronage roles also ceased.
