This week the Governor hosted an AgriBio roundtable discussion.  The Roundtable featured participants from AgriBio, a joint venue between Agriculture Victoria and La Trobe University, Australia’s leading facility in plant, animal and microbial systems biology research and innovation, and from Victoria’s SmartFarms.  The roundtable was an opportunity for the Governor to hear about some of the innovative and world-leading work agricultural science being developed and implemented in Victoria.  Read more about the Roundtable here

The Governor and Mr Howard attended the running of the Lexus Melbourne Cup at Flemington Racecourse, where the Governor presented the Cup to the winning connections, as Victoria saw the return of limited crowds to this iconic Melbourne event.

During the week, the Governor received the traditional courtesy call of the Leader of the Opposition, the Hon. Matthew Guy MP, following his election as Leader of the Liberal Party. The Governor and Mr Howard also hosted a virtual Governor in Schools program with students from Melton Primary School, where they spoke with Grade 6 students and answered questions about the role of the Governor in Victoria, and about the way Victoria’s system of Government works. As Patron of the Victorian Men’s Shed Association, the Governor was also glad to be able to provide a recorded message to the Association’s members, as they gathered for their Annual General Meeting.

Next week, the program of Investitures for recipients of the 2021 Queen’s Birthday Honours in the Order of Australia commences. During these ceremonies, Victorians who have been recognised for their important service to the community will be invested with their awards by the Governor.
