Queen Victoria and the Ballroom

The Ballroom commands an entire wing of Government House. The Ballroom is 42m long, 16.7m wide, and 13.7m high. It has been said that when the plans for the Ballroom were presented to Queen Victoria for approval, she objected to the size as it was bigger than the ballroom at Buckingham Palace and asked that the building be reduced. However, by the time her request reached Victoria, construction had already begun.
