Getting there

Public transport

Train: Flinders Street Station is a 15 to 20-minute walk to Government House

Tram: Take the St Kilda Rd/Coventry St tram - routes 3/3a, 5, 6,16, 64, 67 and 72 - and get off at the Grant Street - Police Memorial stop

Metro Tunnel disruptions

Check the Metro Tunnel website for transport disruptions as part of the tunnel works. 

Drive

Parking is often available at Government House for events. Please check your invitation in relation to whether parking is available for your specific event.

Metered parking is available on nearby Linlithgow and Birdwood Avenues but there may be limited availability.

Disabled access

Government House has wheelchair access and disabled toilet facilities. If you require any form of specific assistance, please let us know via the contact on your invitation.

Security checks

Visitors must have their entree card or invitation with them to enter a Government House event, and a form of photo ID. The invitation is not transferable. Visitors will be subject to security checks on entry.

National Anthem and Vice-Regal Salute

On some occasions, the Australian National Anthem - Advance Australia Fair or the Vice-Regal Salute are played during Official Proceedings.

The Vice-Regal Salute is the first 4 and last 4 bars of the Australian National Anthem and is not accompanied by singing.

Media and photography

Please note that media often attend events of public interest involving the Governor, and your attendance may be captured in such footage/images and be published.

An official photographer is engaged to capture some ceremonies at Government House, such as Investiture ceremonies for the presentation of Australian Honours and Awards.

Photographs and videos are also taken for the Office of the Governor to record events involving the Governor, which may be published.  

Your image may be photographed or filmed at any time throughout your attendance at an event involving the Governor.

By attending such an event you are consenting to the use of your image, in full or in part, for any Government House related purposes, including social media. 

Should you not wish to have your image photographed or filmed, please inform Government House staff.

Social media 

The Governor is active on Twitter and Instagram. Photographs and videos at events may be posted on either of these social media accounts. You are encouraged to publish your own images on social media and to tag @VicGovernor and #GovHouseVic
