The Governor, Professor the Honourable Margaret Gardner AC, accompanied by Professor Glyn Davis AC, attended the opening night of Victorian Opera’s 'The Pirates of Penzance' at the Palais Theatre.

Friday, 30 January

The Governor, Professor the Honourable Margaret Gardner AC, visited Emergency Management Victoria State Control Centre where she was met by Tim Wiebusch ESM, Commissioner, Emergency Management Victoria, before receiving a briefing on the bushfire emergency. Then the Governor toured the centre, where she met with and thanked staff.

Following this, the Governor visited the ‘LOVING: Photographs of Men in Love 1850s to 1950s’ exhibition hosted by His Excellency Gabriele Visentin, Ambassador of the European Union to Australia.

Wednesday, 28 January

The Governor, Professor the Honourable Margaret Gardner AC, presided at a meeting of the Executive Council.

Then, the Governor was escorted on a tour of the Veterans Public Arts Trail by Mark Johnston, Chairman, and Kat Baldwin, Director, Australian National Veterans Arts Museum.

In the afternoon, the Governor received the welcome call of Tony Bates PSM, Secretary, Department of Education.

Monday, 26 January

The Governor, Professor the Honourable Margaret Gardner AC, and Professor Glyn Davis AC, hosted the Official Australia Day Flag Raising Ceremony at Government House. The Governor inspected the Australian Defence Force Tri-Service Guard and Royal Australian Air Force Band, before delivering the annual Victorian Australia Day Address.

Then, the Governor and Professor Davis hosted the annual Government House January Open Day, where the Governor met with representatives of participating volunteer organisations and visitors at the Open Day.

In the afternoon, the Governor, as Patron-in-Chief, gave an interview to 3MBS Melbourne 103.5FM.

Thursday, 22 January

The Governor, Professor the Honourable Margaret Gardner AC, attended the Victorian State Vigil on the National Day of Mourning for the victims of the Bondi Terror Attacks at St Paul’s Cathedral before hosting members of the Jewish community at Government House.

Wednesday, 21 January

The Governor, Professor the Honourable Margaret Gardner AC, visited the Divisional Command Centre at the Harcourt CFA Fire Station, where she was met by Acting Emergency Management Commissioner Brett Boatman before being escorted on a tour of the Harcourt fireground and meeting with staff and local CFA volunteers.

Following this, the Governor toured the Harcourt Emergency Relief Centre and Community Hub before meeting with staff, members of the community, Harcourt Progress Association, Red Cross, and Victorian Council of Churches Emergency Ministry.

Then, the Governor visited the Recovery Hub in Castlemaine, where she met with Councillor Toby Heydon, Mayor, Mount Alexander Shire, before touring the Hub and meeting with members of the impacted community, Services Australia, and recovery service organisations.

In the evening, the Governor, accompanied by Professor Glyn Davis AC, hosted the 2026 Australia Day Reception, where she gave a speech to mark the occasion.
